I love to sing. There are very few things which fill me with as much joy as opening my lungs and expressing myself through song. To do so for groups of people while they experience the transformative effects of a yoga practice is an indescribable pleasure.
I am a Wellington-born singer-songwriter, lawyer gone AWOL, ex-basketballer, faux-frenchie and yoga enthusiast. I have been practising yoga for three years, since returning to New Zealand after eight years spent singing for my supper in various Parisian concert cafes and bistrots. And what a counterpoint yoga provided to my new-found desk job, not to mention relief from the damage a basketball career had wrought upon my ankles.
But beyond that, I found a sense of calm on my mat. A time to myself. A time to focus my attention inward, to observe where I was at and how I was feeling, both physically and emotionally, and to accept these things while realising that any changes were only going to come from exactly this space within.
I have always lived my life to a soundtrack, and believe strongly in the power of song, and music in general, to accompany us through both our lightest and darkest of moments. Many of these profound effects, I have found echoed in what yoga has brought into my life. Then I met Jemma, and we've decided to combine the two.
And I can't wait to share it with you..
Paul is also available to perform in live music venues, private functions and weddings.
You can find some more about Paul's musical makings and doings, both yoga and non-yoga related, on his Facebook page:
A Somerset born lass whose heart fell heavy for New Zealand whilst visiting on her O.E and never left!
I am a passionate girl! Passionate about food, Freddie Mercury, yoga and good music.
I came to my mat around 4 years ago. I was at a low point in my personal life, confidence and ambition had disappeared. My boss/soul sista decided it was time I tried yoga. To be completely honest, I thought it was the last thing I needed!
Golly, was I proved wrong. I firstly noticed the physical changes. Then without really trying, a sense of mindfulness began. Confidence grew, ambition developed, and my practice sparked many precious things that I had locked away inside and didn't even know!
This path led me to complete my 200 hr Teacher Training with Hot Yoga Wellington in 2015. A place I hold dear to my heart and am so thankful to be able to call another home.
Music has always played a big part in my life. Before yoga, music was my pathway within. I came to it in times of excitement, joy, sadness, fear and support. Listening to Queen ,especially, gave me confidence to step out occasionally as it lit my soul on fire! It gave me the same comfort and courage as I have recently found in the mat.
I am so excited Paul and I have an opportunity to bring these two passions together for the benefit of others and so grateful to those who have supported this project so far.
The biggest thing I have learnt so far is to be me. Jemma. To accept and love it all, even the bits I'm not so keen on. This has given me the confidence I need to trust what my heart and soul is calling for. One of those things is to offer and share these benefits which I am so passionate about.
As well as at Yoga Rhapsody classes, you can find Jemma teaching at Hot Yoga Wellington and Beginner Yogi, Karori. Jemma is also available for private teaching, one on one or groups.
